The city of Balchik (25 000 inhabitants) is in 31 kilometers to the northeast of Varna and in 500 kilometers from Sofia. It is located at the coast, there is a big port for average passenger and merchant ships.

History - the Place was populated still with Ionians in V in to Hr. Osnovnny to them the settlement was called Kruni or Kruoni that was borrowed from the drevnogrechesky word "izvor" (sources) as here a key a set of karst medicinal waters fight. Later the city was called Dionisopolis, a name of god of wine and fun Dionysus. Some consider that the name is connected with Dionysus's statue which is thrown out by the sea. Here coin sekl with a face of this god, and to the beginning of a new era the city was the most important center of the Northern Coast of the Black Sea after the city of Odesos (nowadays Varna). After many attacks during the Roman Empire the city fell into decay, and became part of Bulgaria later. In the XIII-XIV centuries the city moved to natural strengthening of Gene Bair. It became possession of the boyar Balik from where and his name Balchik. After the Crimean war (1853 - 1856) the city prospers and became the large center of trade with wheat. After the Balkan war of 1913 it was included in borders of Romania. Struck with beauty of the zdneshny nature, the queen Maria built the palace and a botanical garden, a chapel and the whole complex of dachas for the Romanian aristocrats. The city turned into the resort, modern for the time. After 1940 the city of Balchik becomes part in the Bulgarian territory again.
